More Tuesday Photos

I spent most of Tuesday driving around with water filter deliveries, but I wanted to share a few other photos I managed to capture throughout the day.

First of all, here are a few photos of a family that you can keep in your prayer intentions. They came to clinic on Monday, where one of our providers found out that they had recently been traveling through Mexico and one of the members of the family - a ten year old girl - had disappeared. I'm not clear on the relationship, whether it was the older woman's daughter or what, but she was obviously completely distraught and was asking us for any help we could give.

The family came back the next day, and the mother appeared to be much more composed, so I can only pray that she had received some hope somehow. At any rate, she had brought the whole family along, and she wanted lots of printed photos, which I was happy to provide. It made me realize that family photos aren't just nice mementos, they can actually be crucial in cases where the police need to search for and identify people. Anyway, here are some of the photos I took.

Mom had brought along a baby parrot for the photo shoot, and she kept putting it on the kids' heads. In fact, it was the only way she could get a smile out of the little boy.

The girls from the American school weren't too thrilled about me catching them with their mouths full of food.


I thought this was a great portrait of Ken with one of the homeowners who received a water filter.


The pharmacy got a visit from the Salvadoran Ministry of Health and the representative was completely blown away - great job, pharmacy crew!


And I got some assorted portraits toward the end of the day.

Beach Time

After a long morning, a few long days and a long week, we finally headed to the beach. We arrived at Playa Costa del Sol at around 4:15 pm. We were very ready for some rest and relaxation. The boys had been griping about missing the Badgers game and their complaining paid off, because they got an offer to ride in a car instead of the bus and arrived a lot sooner than the rest of us. Just look at these poor deprived souls. This was the view from the driveway that we pulled into. The beach house is surrounded by coconut trees, and there was a guy climbing to the top and harvesting them for us to eat. This tree is probably fifty feet tall, and he scampered up the side of it with no ropes or safety harnesses of any kind. Here's a close-up, so you can see him in among the fronds. Tacachico Water Filters

I think I mentioned this before, but we try to accommodate everyone who wants to go out on a water filter delivery run. It equips them to be better able to deliver the message back home during fundraising efforts, and it's also a chance to get out of the clinic area and see a little bit more of the country. Unfortunately, by Thursday, we were in a little bit of trouble with our delivery schedule. Tuesday morning had not gone as planned, so the members of that group hadn't visited anyone's homes. And the group that was supposed to go out on Wednesday morning didn't, because of the chaos (read the previous post!). Ken spoke with Dr. Mike and got his permission to have not just one, but two makeup delivery sessions on Thursday. This was a big deal, because Thursday was our second and last day in Tacachico, and we didn't want to fall even more behind than we already were.
