Water Filters are Here!
The water filters were dropped off nice and early (before noon, even!) on Monday morning. 340 total filter elements, 220 of which were for complete filter units, and 120 of which were replacements for filters already in the field.
It seemed like everybody pitched in to help unload: the delivery truck drivers, the translators, parish volunteers, missionaries and even translators. It still took a looooong time. Every time we thought we had reached the back of the truck, there were just more rows of boxes and buckets waiting for us.
The filters were placed in a storage room until the local parish volunteers can all be trained, and the filters dispersed out to the community. This is what 340 water filters looks like.
The "field trips" that we get to take to give out water filters are a hot commodity among the missionaries. For one thing, it gives us a chance to get outside the walls of the clinic area, but for another, we are all naturally very curious to learn as much as we can about the living conditions of the folks who are receiving the filters.
Because we have more missionaries than usual this year, Ken has been able to come up with a fuller schedule for the field trips and allowed more people to partake. Here he is, reviewing the roster.
I'm scheduled to go on two of them as the photographer tomorrow (Tuesday)! So I should have some interesting photos to share from that trip.
We're all excited, but it will mean a little extra strain for everyone who gets left behind to pick up the slack... I'm sure they'll rise to the challenge.
